let's play a little game, reader(s)
2018-05-05 09:20 amI've managed to seize a few more minutes with a mighty keyboard instead of just a touchscreen, and that means I'm going to see who even reads this thing.
Here's our game: I have done at least one of the things on the following list within the last two years. Guess which in the comments! I'll reply and tell you if you guessed right. Even if you have no idea who I am and somehow found yourself here, feel free to join in! You can't do worse than the folks who don't even try!
Of course, if nobody guesses, I won't have any guesses to reply to, and I'll have a reasonbly good indication that nobody reads here. If that happens, I'll sulk awhile, possibly delete my account since I won't be using it, and stalk off to other corners if the internet. Either way, I'll live.
Have I...
* adopted a pet?
* moved to a different continent?
* gotten divorced?
* gotten pregnant?
* gotten an STD?
* gotten an MRI?
* converted to a non-Christian religion?
* converted to a non-Microsoft operating system?
* converted from paperbacks to an e-reader?
(Grr, that was *supposed* to be a formatted list. I thought this thing supported Markdown but all it did was eat my newlines. Oh well, I'm nearly out of time so asterisk bullets will have to do.)
Have at it, and have fun!

Date: 2018-05-05 10:04 pm (UTC)Now I feel a bit silly for forgetting, but I made this little game because I wanted to know if anybody remembered me and clearly the answer is "yes, even better than I remember myself." Yay!

Date: 2018-05-17 04:37 pm (UTC)Bet you my husband has already told whatever joke you had in mind. (He grew up Catholic and has, um, *feelings* about it.) ;)
Alas, I don't have an e-reader - yet. They've been on my mind a lot though. I know that you (used to?) have a keyboard Kindle. Are you still into Kindle or is there a newer brand I should look into? (I'm too cheap to go cutting edge. Absent any input, I was planning to seek out a used Kindle, either keyboard or early Touch so I can avoid that weird five-way thingy. I'm not a fan of Bezos et al, but Kindle is the only reader Instapaper supports wirelessly, so....)

Date: 2018-05-18 11:21 am (UTC)It's a Kindle so it will only take mobi and Amazon proprietary formats (and PDF, but it's too slow to handle those well, and it's b&w of course). I keep my ebook collection in a Calibre library synced to Dropbox, and just convert anything in epub format to mobi in order to put it on the device.
When I've looked at possible upgrades, non-Amazon devices generally seem more flexible format-wise. So far I haven't seen any reason to upgrade, because smartphone serves any hand-held purposes I have and I like a dedicated reading device. I wouldn't get a Kindle Fire, for example. It's allegedly Android but mucked about with too much.
